Investigators are trying to find the gunman involved in an overnight shooting that left a man dead in southwest Atlanta.

Officers heard gunshots near Metropolitan Parkway and Cleveland Avenue just before midnight Tuesday, according to Atlanta police spokesman Sgt. John Chafee.

Police checked the area behind a building in the 2700 block of Metropolitan Parkway and found the man’s body. He had been shot multiple times, Chafee said.

The man was identified Thursday as 35-year-old Jermethes Evans of Atlanta.

Investigators believe Evans and the suspect were involved in a verbal dispute before the shooting, Chafee said. During the argument, the pair walked behind the building, and the suspect pulled out a gun, Chafee said.

Police are still trying to identify the shooter. An investigation is ongoing.
