Police early Monday were investigating a shooting near a DeKalb County gas station that left one man dead and another critically injured.

Three men were returning from a club about 2:30 a.m. when someone in a white SUV opened fire on their black Ford Mustang, DeKalb police Lt. Mark Lavigne said. Two of the three men in the Mustang — the 32-year-old driver and a 23-year-old passenger — were shot near a Citgo gas station in the 3000 block of Moreland Avenue, he said.

Somehow, they made it to the gas station after the shooting. Both victims were rushed to a local hospital, where the driver was pronounced dead. The passenger was in critical condition but expected to survive, Lavigne said.

Police hope to get more information about the shooting from the passenger who was not injured and from nearby surveillance cameras.

A nearby resident, Ed Lorenz, told Channel 2 Action news he wasn’t surprised by the shooting as shooting are a “regular occurrence” in the area.
