A man has confessed to killing a woman he met at the Rainbow Family gathering in Georgia’s Chattahoochee National Forest, authorities said.
However, Joseph Bryan Capstraw, 20, of Jacksonville, Fla., does not recall the incident, according to Elizabethtown, Ky. police.
News outlets obtained an arrest citation that indicated Capstraw "blacked out" after an argument with the victim in Elizabethtown, according to The Associated Press. The next thing he recalled, the woman was "badly beaten" and his hands were injured, police said.
Elizabethtown police spokesman Chris Denham said Capstraw was charged with murder Saturday. He allegedly led officers to her body, a Jacksonville television station reported.
Police are awaiting autopsy results and have not released her identity.
Capstraw said he met the woman at the gathering in Lumpkin County and they left together, according to police.
"Detectives are still trying to determine her connection to Capstraw, and how exactly they ended up in Elizabethtown," Officer John Thomas said Tuesday.
In a related development, a man who attended the Rainbow gathering has been reported missing by the Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office.
