A man has been charged in a shooting death that police say stemmed from an argument while a group of men were gambling in northeast Atlanta.

Gregory Oliver, 33, was charged with murder in connection with the death of 32-year-old Patrick Belton on April 21, Atlanta police Officer Stephanie Brown said.

About 9 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of Parkway Drive, where they found Belton with multiple gunshot wounds.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency crews.

“Based on the preliminary investigation it appears that a large group of males were gambling in front of the apartment complex and two males got into a verbal argument that escalated into gunfire,” Brown said.

Oliver was taken into custody at his attorney’s office Friday and booked into the Fulton County Jail.
