An Atlanta murder suspect was arrested in California this week, authorities said.
Caprie Anthony Paige, 24, was taken into custody Monday by U.S. marshals in Elk Grove. He’s accused of a deadly shooting in northeast Atlanta in September in addition to another shooting in North Carolina, Elizabeth City police said in a news release.
Shortly after 8:15 p.m. Sept. 8, Paige shot Diquon Fletcher several times in the 600 block of Boulevard, which is near Ponce City Market, according to an Atlanta police incident report. Fletcher, 38, was found unconscious at the scene and later died at Grady Memorial Hospital.
Nearly a week prior to that shooting, Paige allegedly fired gunshots in Elizabeth City. After that incident, police obtained warrants for discharging a firearm in city limits, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, the release said.
On Sept. 11, police believed they tracked Paige near the College of The Albemarle, which was evacuated and placed on lockdown while authorities searched for Paige. The lockdown was lifted later that day when authorities called off the active manhunt.
Atlanta and Elizabeth City police will both see Paige’s extradition to face outstanding charges. Paige was denied bond and remains in the Sacramento County, California, Jail.
