A man who had been on the run since 2018 was arrested while he was on his way to board a flight to Canada, authorities said.
Madjou Doumbouya, 33, of Bronx, N.Y., was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport last Thursday, according to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.
He had been wanted in the county since May 2018, when a local restoration service company accused Doumbouya, a former employee, of illegally obtaining a company check. He then duplicated that check eight times, depositing the money into a personal account, Lt. Allen Stevens said.
Doumbouya was initially charged with eight counts of first-degree fraud, but six additional counts were added before his arrest last week. It’s unclear what prompted those extra charges.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection informed deputies that Doumbouya was at the airport and had been detained due to the active warrants before he could board a flight to Montreal, Stevens said.
Doumbouya was then booked into the Fayette County Jail, where he remains without bond.
