Days after a woman was killed in a retaliation shooting, her son remained in jail in connection with one of three shootings on a downtown Atlanta street.

Earl Wade, 37, of Atlanta, faces charges aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony in connection with a shooting on 215 Forsyth Street, according to jail records.

Between 12:45 a.m. and 3:50 a.m. Friday, authorities responded to three shootings on Forsyth Street. One of the victims in the shootings was Wade’s mother, Heidi Cooper, 57, Atlanta police confirmed to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Investigators were on the scene of a shooting involving an Atlanta police officer when they learned of a second shooting at a nearby Quick Pick convenience store in the 200 block of Forsyth Street.

Officers determined the shooting occurred in the parking lot of 200 Forsyth Street, Atlanta police said. Officers saw Wade running from the scene and chased him, but did not find Wade.

They did find his mother dead from several gunshot wounds at a nearby scene.

“The preliminary investigation indicates this shooting is the result of an earlier dispute which ended in a 29-year-old female being shot at 215 Forsyth Street,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Bender said Friday afternoon in an emailed statement. “Investigators believe the homicide victim was shot in retaliation for her son shooting the 29 -year-old female.”

The 29-year-old was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition. Her updated condition was not released.
