Although violent crime is down nearly a third in Atlanta, the city is a far cry from being safe, according to a recent study.

ValuePenguin analyzed 2013 FBI crime statistics of small, midsize and large cities in Georgia with populations larger than 5,000.

About an hour north of Atlanta, and with a population just under 10,000, Holly Springs is the safest place in Georgia. The city has a crime score of 273. Comparatively, Atlanta has a crime score of 4,323.

Seven of the top 10 safest places have populations less than 15,000.
