Flames and heavy smoke were coming from the roof when DeKalb firefighters arrived at the Aspen Woods Apartments at 3379 Flat Shoals Road in Panthersville around 7 p.m., DeKalb County Fire Rescue said in a Facebook post.

The building was evacuated, and firefighters had to leave at one point because conditions worsened inside, the post said.

Two crews were eventually able to extinguish the fire, and no one was injured, the post said. Eight units were damaged, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The Red Cross told AJC.com it is providing caseworkers to offer help and recovery resources to those displaced, such as emergency aid and emotional support.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
