Atlanta police are investigating at least three overnight shootings that left three people dead and two others injured.

All of the shootings occurred within seven miles of each other on the city’s southwest side.

About 11:30 p.m., a man was found dead in his car from what “appears to be a 12-gauge shotgun wound to his chest area,” Atlanta police Maj. Adam Lee said.

Investigators believe an argument triggered the shooting. The man, whose name was not released, tried to run from the car before the shooter opened fire at the Brentwood Meadows Apartments on Alison Court, police told Channel 2 Action News.

Hours before that, Demandril Jackson, 22, of Atlanta, was killed and two people were injured in a triple shooting about 8:30 p.m. in the 600 block of Smith Street, police said. Less than two hours later, an unidentified man was shot and killed just before 10 p.m. at a Shell gas station in the 2200 block of Cascade Road.

Police were searching for the shooters early Wednesday.
