Two people died after a vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign in Banks County, authorities said.

Sametrice Johnson, 27, of Athens, and Laquesha Smith, 27, of Commerce, died Sunday afternoon after a crash at the intersection of Ga. 164 and Ga. 59, Georgia State Patrol said.

A 2017 Nissan Senta, which Johnson was driving, allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, and a 2002 Dodge Dakota ended up T-boning the Nissan, GSP said.

Johnson and Smith, who was the passenger in the Nissan, died from their injuries, GSP said. The driver and passenger in the Dodge were not hurt.

No other details have been released. An investigation is ongoing.
