VALDOSTA - Police arrested a juvenile for possession of a stolen weapon after citizens reported hearing gunfire near their homes Sunday.

At approximately 5:35 p.m., the Valdosta Police Department received a 911 call from a citizen who reported heard four or five gunshots in the Fresno Street area. Another citizen then called 911 to report four juveniles walking along the street. The caller believed the juveniles were responsible for the gunfire, according to Captain Bobbi McGraw.

One of the juveniles reportedly admitted to shooting a gun into the air and then throwing the gun down when they saw the blue police lights of officers approaching, according to McGraw.

“The gun was located in a ditch,” said McGraw. “The weapon was collected and found to have been stolen from a burglary on Muscogee Drive earlier in the day.”

At 10 a.m., police responded to the reported forced entry burglary of a home in the 2400 block of Muscogee Drive. The victim told police two firearms were taken from the home: a Springfield ACP XDM handgun and a Desert Eagle handgun with a black handle, according to police reports.

A 2005 Ford truck was also stolen, as well as several items from inside the home, including a flat screen television, a laptop, a gaming console, MP3 player, headphones, speakers, and other items, reports stated.

The juvenile, who allegedly admitted to firing the weapon, was charged with theft by receiving/possessing stolen property and reckless conduct and transported to the regional youth detention center in Thomasville, said McGraw.

The juveniles questioned at the scene reportedly told police they did not have any knowledge of the Muscogee Drive burglary, but police are continuing to investigate the incident.
