Woman killed after getting caught in middle of DeKalb shootout ID’d

Police said the woman was caught in the crossfire when two groups started shooting.

A woman was shot and killed in her car Wednesday after two groups opened fire on each other, DeKalb County police said.

Officers were dispatched to Columbia Drive about 12:30 p.m. in reference to the shooting, DeKalb police spokeswoman Michaela Vincent said.

Police said the woman, identified as 45-year-old Carlesa Reneau, was caught in the crossfire when the two groups started shooting. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

“It appears she was not the intended target,” Vincent said.

It’s unclear who the suspects were and why they were shooting at each other. Police have not made any arrests in the case.
