Police have recovered a Dodge Challenger they say was carjacked at gunpoint outside a Buckhead hotel early Thursday, authorities said.

Police also detained three people, and one of them was eventually arrested and charged with theft by receiving and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, Atlanta police spokeswoman Lisa Bender told AJC.com. The suspect’s name has not been released.

A DoubleTree Hotel employee had a gun held to his head while he was assisting valet drivers take keys to the valet box, Atlanta police told Channel 2 Action News.

Police told Channel 2 the gunman watched the hotel on Peachtree Road near Lenox Square, waiting until the employee moved a hotel guest’s car before making his approach.

“As the (employee) got out of the car with the keys, one masked gunman approached him and demanded the keys to the vehicle,” Atlanta police Capt. Reginald Moorman said.

He jumped into the gray 2018 Dodge Challenger and picked up a second man standing nearby before driving away, the news station reported.

No other details have been released.

An investigation is ongoing.
