Atlanta police are searching for a new Rolls Royce that was stolen in Buckhead on Thursday morning.
Officers were dispatched to 4420 Roswell Road about 11 a.m. after the car’s owner said a man jumped into his vehicle and drove off as it was being loaded onto a tractor-trailer, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant told AJC.com.
The owner told police his car, a 2017 Rolls Royce Wraith, was parked on the street with the key fob inside when he heard the engine start up.
“The victim stated he looked up and noticed his vehicle, a newly purchased Rolls Royce, speeding away from the location,” Grant said.
The 12-cylinder, 624 horsepower luxury car is worth at least $300,000.
Witnesses told officers they noticed two men in a white Mercedes who appeared to be casing the area moments before the car was stolen, police said.
Officers searched the area and detained the driver of the Mercedes after determining he was involved in the heist, but the Rolls Royce still hasn’t been found, authorities said.
Police have not released the name of the man in custody or said what charges he faces, citing an ongoing investigation.
