A young man is in critical condition after being shot behind a Jonesboro gas station Thursday afternoon in what’s being described by police as a possible robbery.

Officers said the victim may be in his late teens, but his exact age has not been released. The shooting occurred behind a Shell station at Thomas and Flint River roads, said Officer Marcena Davis, spokeswoman for Clayton County police.

Authorities are still searching for suspects in the case, she said.

The shooting occurred near Pointe South Middle School, but a Clayton County School District spokesman said the incident is unrelated to the school.

Several patrol cars are at the scene, slowing traffic ahead of the evening commute.
