Authorities have identified the Henry County high school junior varsity basketball player who died Friday night after collapsing during a game.

Henry County Schools spokesman J.D. Hardin confirmed to AJC.com that the Eagle’s Landing High School student who died was Zikora Okwuosa, 16. He collapsed while the team was playing at Woodland High School in Stockbridge and died at Piedmont Henry Hospital later that night.

The student’s family has been notified of the death.

Hardin previously sent a statement that said, in part: “We are saddened to share that we did have a student athlete that required medical attention during a sporting event in our county this evening ... Our thoughts and condolences go out to this student’s family. We will have grief counselors available for students and staff upon their return to school on Monday.”

Eagle’s Landing posted about the incident on Facebook on Saturday morning. The post said, in part: “We are saddened to share that our Eagle’s Landing High School family suffered a loss last night with the passing of a student-athlete ... Our thoughts and condolences go out to this student’s family and our ELHS community.”

AJC.com has reached out to the Henry County Coroner’s Office to get more details about when the cause of death will be determined.
