A man is in critical condition after being shot outside a sports bar near Austell early Friday morning, police said.

Gavin Persaud, 38, was shot in the abdomen at The Sports Grill at 3999 Austell Road about 2 a.m., Cobb County police said in a news release. He was taken to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

“Officers had been given a description of the suspect and his vehicle, and that information was shared with surrounding police agencies,” Cobb police spokesman Sgt. Wayne Delk said in a statement.

Powder Springs police spotted the vehicle, pulled it over at the Waffle House at 4097 Marietta Street and arrested the driver.

Yeshvak Williams, 25, of Dallas, was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, Delk said. Two passengers in the vehicle were detained but not arrested or charged.

Williams remains at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Cobb County police at 770-499-3945.
