The victim told Atlanta police he was returning to his apartment in the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive late Tuesday night when he was ambushed by two men, according to Channel 2 Action News.

Two intruders are on the run after they ambushed a man, forced him inside his southwest Atlanta home and stole the money he was saving to move to a safer area, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The victim told Atlanta police he was returning to his apartment in the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive late Tuesday night after visiting his mother’s house. He was met by two men. One wore a mask and displayed an assault weapon, the news station reported.

After following the victim inside the residence, they robbed him of $4,000 and one took off in his Infiniti SUV, Atlanta police Capt. Reginald Moorman told Channel 2. The other jumped in the white vehicle they arrived in.

The victim’s roommates were inside the apartment at the time, Moorman said.

“Once we spoke with them, they said that they were pooling their money together to move to another location," he said.

Officers found the Infiniti abandoned at an apartment complex on Donnelly Avenue a short time later, just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

An investigation is ongoing.
