A National Guardsman from Georgia died in a non-combat incident in Afghanistan on Monday, authorities confirmed.
Spc. Miguel L. Holmes, 22, of Hinesville, died in the Nangarhar Province from “wounds sustained from a non-combat incident,” according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Defense.
Holmes was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 118th Field Artillery Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team based in Savannah, which is within the Georgia Army National Guard, the release said. He was overseas supporting Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.
In July 2018, a U.S. Army Ranger from Georgia was killed in combat in Afghanistan in support of the same operation, AJC.com previously reported.

No other details about his death have been released, and the incident is under investigation.
