Forsyth County firefighter arrested on sexual battery, child cruelty charges

A Forsyth County firefighter was arrested in Dawson County on several felonies, including child cruelty, sexual battery and aggravated assault, authorities confirmed.

John James Weisgerber, 40, of Dawsonville, was arrested by the Dawson County Sheriff’s Office last Friday, jail records show. He faces a count of aggravated assault, two counts of sexual battery and six counts of first-degree child cruelty.

Karen Shields, director of communication for the Forsyth County government, confirmed to AJC.com that Weisgerber is a firefighter with the Forsyth County Fire Department. He has been placed on administrative leave.

It’s unclear how long Weisgerber has been employed by the fire department. No other details on this incident were provided.

As of Friday night, he remained in the Dawson County jail on a $75,200 bond, jail records show.
