The man was shot just after midnight in the westbound lanes near Martin Luther King Drive. Officers responding to the scene found him behind the wheel of a silver Volkswagen Jetta, the news station reported.

“There were multiple shots fired inside the vehicle,” Atlanta police Lt. Andrea Webster told Channel 2. “We were able to recover a couple of shell casings.”

The 33-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in critical condition.

Multiple lanes of the interstate were closed until about 2:30 a.m. while investigators collected evidence. They have not determined a motive, the news station reported.
