A driver suspected in a string of Cobb County car break-ins fled Georgia State Patrol troopers Tuesday afternoon, causing a series of crashes during the evening commute, authorities said.

A trooper tried to stop a black Chevrolet Malibu with homemade tags on I-75 South near the I-285 interchange when the driver of the Malibu took off, the GSP said in a statement.

Authorities said the suspect “caused multiple crashes while attempting to flee” and rear-ended a vehicle near North Avenue on the Downtown Connector.

“The suspect then recklessly swerved through the debris field all the way over to the right lane,” police said.

After the crash, the suspect jumped out of the car, hopped a fence and ran though Georgia Tech’s campus, police said.

The suspect has not been located, but warrants are being taken out for the owner of the Malibu, authorities said.
