Authorities are collecting evidence on property in Cherokee County just north of Milton after human remains were found, law enforcement officials said Saturday.

The residence is on the 2000 block of Purcell Lane, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Marianne Kelley said in a news release. Kelley said the remains were located in a wooded area to the rear of the residence by owners of the property.

The collected evidence will be transported to the GBI crime lab for identification and to assist in determining the cause of death.

Deputies arrived sometime Friday morning, and police remained at the scene Saturday. The property includes a pond, a creek, several pastures and an extensive amount of wooded area, according to the news release.

The home has an Alpharetta mailing address but is in an unincorporated part of Cherokee County.

The investigation is ongoing.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
