Judge denies bond for 2 men accused in killing of Applebee’s manager
The two men allegedly involved in the fatal shooting of an Applebee’s restaurant manager in Fayetteville last month will remain in jail until their trial.
A Fayette County Superior Court judge denied bond Wednesday for Gregory Haney Jr., 24, and Ledarius Jackson, 25, in front of the family of victim Greg Smith, Channel 2 Action News reported.
Smith was killed the night of June 7 allegedly during a dispute over the night deposit, which Haney and Jackson are accused of trying to steal. Haney was a former employee at the same North Glynn Street Applebee’s where Smith was killed, although the two did not know each other.
Haney is charged with felony murder, malice murder, armed robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Jackson is charged as a party to the crimes of felony murder, malice murder, armed robbery and aggravated assault.
Smith’s family — who told Channel 2 that Haney was smiling and smirking during the bond hearing — said they will keep up with the trial from start to finish.
“We feel like we have to be here,” Smith’s cousin Jessalyn Dorsey told Channel 2. “The family wants to send a statement to them that we miss our loved one and we’re gonna be here to make sure that justice is done.”
