A Jimmy John’s worker faces an aggravated assault charge after police said he threatened co-workers, hit an officer’s cruiser and then led police on a chase.
Hapeville police officers responded Tuesday afternoon to the restaurant in the 800 block of Virginia Avenue, according to Channel 2 Action News.
Co-workers told officers that Andre Dion Thomas, 26, threatened them and knocked registers onto the floor. It is unclear what Thomas allegedly said.
When police arrived, he had already left.
Officers then saw him jump into his vehicle, Channel 2 reported. At that point, Thomas slammed into an officer’s vehicle several times, leading an officer to fire his weapon, police told Channel 2.
Bullets hit Thomas’ vehicle multiple times before he drove away, according to Channel 2.
Thomas then led officers on a chase that ended with a PIT maneuver on Norman Berry Drive in East Point, police told the news station. But that didn’t stop Thomas from getting out of his vehicle and jumping a barbed-wire fence, police said.
Thomas was eventually captured and had cuts and scrapes from the barbed wire, Channel 2 said.
He was also charged with disorderly conduct, aggravated assault on an officer, terroristic threats and various traffic offenses. He was taken to the Fulton County Jail, Channel 2 reported.
The GBI is investigating the incident as an officer-involved shooting.
