Police are looking for two men who forced their way inside a DeKalb County apartment, stole a jar of money and shot two people.
The victims, a 39-year-old woman and a 38-year-old man, told police they sold snacks out of their unit on Tregoney Drive, DeKalb police Maj. Stephen Fore said.
About 12:30 a.m., Torrey Mccommons responded to a knock at the door and found two men asking for cigarettes, police said in an incident report.
He told them he didn’t have any, and that’s when the men forced their way into the apartment and pointed a gun at Mccommons, according to the incident report.
As Mccommons tried to close the door on the intruders, they opened fire, Fore said.
Mccommons was shot in the chest and abdomen area.
One of the bullets hit Jessie Baptiste in the ankle, according to the report.
Baptiste ran to the back of the ground-level apartment, grabbed her baby and escaped through a window, police said.
She told police she saw the intruders run into the woods behind her apartment, according to the report. One of them had long dreadlocks.
Baptiste and Mccommons were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in stable condition.
“The investigation is ongoing,” Fore said.
