The Cobb County District Attorney announced Monday that six people — including one state prison inmate — were indicted on drug trafficking charges for an alleged methamphetamine ring.
According to the indictment, Alejandra ‘Chino’ Javier Chaves, 40, facilitated multiple sales of large amounts of methamphetamine while in Montgomery State Prison in March 2014, which his accused accomplices then delivered.
In addition to the drug trafficking charges, Chaves is charged with two counts of terroristic threats for allegedly threatening the life of a Cobb sheriff’s office agent, as well as possession and sale of methamphetamine and illegal use of a communication facility. He is still in state custody and is serving a prison sentence in Douglas County.
The other defendants in the case — Nancy Veronica Bravo, Wilmer Lazo Caballero, Nereida Adileny Cruz, Esther Guadarrama and Antonia Paniague Hurtado — were also charged with various counts of drug trafficking Thursday after a Cobb grand jury returned the indictment.
In addition to the drug charges, Bravo, 29, of Kennesaw, is charged with two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and one count of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.
Caballero, 23, of Marietta, is additionally charged with obstruction of an officer and possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Guadarrama, 25, is also charged with fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer.
Bravo and Cruz, 23, remain in police custody at the Cobb jail, while Caballero, Guadarrama and Hurtado, 63, are all free on bond. Arraignment dates have not been set.
