He came relatively late to a career in law enforcement. Robert Olsen worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for years before deciding to wear the uniform of the DeKalb police. Eight years ago, he became a cop.
Now, the cop is facing murder charges in the shooting death of Anthony Hill. The two crossed paths in March 2014 — Olsen, responding to a call of a naked man outside an apartment complex; Hill, the naked man. A DeKalb grand jury last week indicted Olsen in the fatal encounter.
For Olsen, the indictments come after several other instances in which people complained about his conduct. One angry cab driver, with whom Olsen came in contact, predicted the officer one day would shoot someone.
That's not the Olsen that the cop's brother-in-law knows. He called the indicted officer a kind man, a doting father and devoted husband.
