Officials are still searching for a man believed to be armed after a four-hour standoff with Atlanta police.

SWAT team members and other authorities had a southwest Atlanta neighborhood surrounded late Tuesday after police said the man was barricaded inside an apartment.

"After SWAT units cleared the location, the building was found to be vacant," Atlanta police Officer Donald Hannah said Wednesday morning in a statement.

Investigators said it all started when an Atlanta officer on a motorcycle tried to make a traffic stop near Fulton Street and Whitehall Terrace about 6 p.m.

The passenger in the armed man’s vehicle, Micah Duncan- Ashford, was arrested on a charge of possession of marijuana, Hannah said.

The driver ran to a nearby building and barricaded himself inside, police spokeswoman Officer Lisa Bender said.

No other details were released.
