Someone tortured, hanged and cut an ear off a dog and then mailed the ear from Chattanooga to the Virgina office of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the Times Free Press reported.

Now, PETA and the Humane Society of Chattanooga are offering a combined $6,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever was responsible, PETA announced Wednesday.

“It should send chills down anyone’s spine to imagine someone out there hanging, killing and cutting body parts from a dog who could only have been terrified — and then bragging about it to an animal protection charity,” PETA vice president Colleen O’Brien said.

A photo sent to PETA with the male dog’s ear shows him strung up by the neck and his hind legs between two pine trees.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to call PETA at 757-962-8328.
