Authorities have issued arrest warrants for a homeless man after a bag was found in the hand of former President Jimmy Carter’s statue at the Georgia Capitol.

“The suspect’s name is Jamon Maurice Williams,” the Georgia State Patrol said in a statement. “To our knowledge he is homeless. There are active warrants for his arrest.”

Further details about Williams were not immediately known.

About 5 a.m. March 13, officials got a call about suspicious items on the grounds, Atlanta fire Sgt. Cortez Stafford said.

Channel 2 Action News reported a small bag was found in the right hand of Carter’s statue. Several other bags were found around the Capitol, the station reported.

An Atlanta bomb squad and a hazmat team were called to the scene. The Capitol and multiple roads in the area were closed for hours, according to the GSP.

Officials ultimately determined there was no danger to anyone and business returned to normal.

However, the incident remains under investigation.
