Stolen BMW crashes into Buckhead apartment

Police are searching for a driver who crashed a stolen BMW into a Buckhead apartment, cut a gas line and knocked out electricity at the complex.
According to Channel 2 Action News, the car was stolen from Scottsdale, Ariz., and the driver may be involved in a nationwide criminal enterprise.
“Apparently, it involves some sort of fraud in the purchase (of the BMW),” Georgia State Patrol Sgt. John Cronin said. “And that’s probably why a vehicle from the West Coast ended up here in Atlanta.”

The incident started when troopers noticed the BMW speeding late Thursday on Piedmont Road and tried to pulled the car over.
The BMW failed to stop, Channel 2 reported.
Cronin told the television station the driver lost control on a curve along Garson Drive and hit a guardrail.
The BMW then went into a maintenance area of The Pointe at Lindbergh apartment in the 400 block of Lindbergh Place, Cronin said.

Crews were forced to shut off the gas, according to Channel 2.
Two cell phones were found in the car, Cronin said. Authorities hope the phones will lead them to the driver.
