A McDonough man was sentenced to life in prison without parole plus five years for murdering another man and dumping his body in an undeveloped subdivision, authorities said Thursday.

The jury found Davious Hammond, 24, guilty of felony murder, aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and criminal attempt to sell marijuana, according to Henry County District Attorney spokeswoman Megan Matteucci.

The jury determined Hammond arranged to sell a quarter pound of marijuana to Christopher Bell, 20, on March 27, 2014, Matteucci said. During the drug transaction outside a Henry County auto repair business, Hammond fired three shots inside the car, striking Bell twice and killing him.

Hammond then drove Bell to an undeveloped subdivision off Bridges Road, wiped the car down and fled to South Carolina, Matteucci said.

The GBI arrested Hammond in August 2014 in Texas.
