A 45-year-old Hall County man is behind bars after he allegedly molested a 12-year-old boy at his Gillsville home, deputies said.

Michael Anthony Maxwell was taken into custody Monday after the child’s family notified authorities of the abuse, Hall County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Derrick Booth said.

Investigators said Maxwell and his alleged victim were acquainted, and that the “immoral and indecent acts” occurred in May.

The child’s family initially reported the abuse to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, but the case was turned over to Hall County deputies after authorities determined it occurred there, Booth said.

Maxwell, who is charged with two counts of aggravated child molestation, is being held at the Hall County Jail without bond, records show.
