When police responded to a report of a death at an unincorporated Snellville home Monday night, Jacquelyn Craft told officers her 65-year-old mother stabbed herself.

But Gwinnett County police said evidence at the scene contradicted her story.

Now, Craft, 35, is in the Gwinnett County Detention Center without bond on murder and aggravated assault charges in connection with the death of Evelyn Craft.

According to police spokesman Sgt. Jake Smith, officers found Evelyn Craft dead from apparent stab wounds in the Leach Road home she shared with her daughter about 11:30 p.m.

“Responding officers found the circumstances suspicious and contacted homicide unit detectives,” he said. “Detectives and the crime scene unit investigated further and found” enough evidence to arrest Craft.

No other details were released.
