Nearly a month after a hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian in Newton County, officials are still searching for the driver.

And with scant information on the type of car, the Georgia State Patrol has little to work with and are turning to the public for help.

Here is what officials know: On Aug. 18, between 2 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., a vehicle was traveling east on Hazelbrand Road near McMahan Road in Covington when it hit Patricia Ann McGuire, GSP spokeswoman Tracey Watson said.

McGuire, 52, of Covington, died at the scene.

According to a GSP crash report, McGuire was wearing dark-colored clothing in an area with “no roadway lighting.” It is unclear if she was standing, walking, sitting or lying in the roadway before the crash.

While the make and model of the vehicle is unknown, police believe a truck, SUV or van “or other vehicle with high ground clearance” was involved, Watson said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Troop E Communications Center at 706-210-2050.
