A Georgia Department of Corrections officer was arrested Thursday on a battery charge, officials said.

Lt. Charlene Edwards allegedly assaulted another guard at Washington State Prison.

The prison is in Washington County, about 140 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Edwards was fired Wednesday after an investigation into an incident from Friday, DOC spokeswoman Gwendolyn Hogan said.
