A Peachtree City man was sentenced to five years in prison in a crash that killed a Coweta County couple that was headed to a movie.
Andrew John Wiemann, 29, pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of vehicular homicide and one count of reckless driving, Assistant District Attorney Matthew Swope said.
The July 2017 crash killed Thomas Scott Mayo, 57, and Pamela Mayo, 58, officials said. The couple was headed to NCG Cinemas for a date night, Channel 2 Action News reported.

The Mayos were trying to turn left into the parking lot of the theater in Sharpsburg when Wiemann ran a stop light on Highway 54 and hit their car, officials said. They were pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
Authorities believe Wiemann was going 94 mph at the time of the crash.
Swope said there is no excuse for such speed.
“When someone’s life is lost, prison is appropriate, if not demanded,” Swope said. "Two lives were lost, and even more were impacted by this. Reckless behavior and disregard resulted in the death of the Mayos. If it wasn’t for the speed, they’d still be alive.”
Wiemann apologized to the Mayo family during the sentencing, saying his emotions got the best of him.
After his prison term, Wiemann will be on probation for 10 years.
