Georgia man charged with murder after 2-year-old dies from beating

A northwest Georgia man has been charged with felony murder after a 2-year-old he is accused of beating later died, authorities said.
Hassan Shareef Rashad, 38, who was arrested Friday afternoon, attacked the victim in front of a 5-year-old child, Floyd County police spokesman Jerome Poole told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution in an email.

Rashad is the boyfriend of the child’s mother, Channel 2 Action News reported.
He originally was accused of attacking the victim with intent to murder, jail records show. Charges were upgraded Sunday after the child died.

The official cause of death has not been established, but police said the child died from multiple internal injuries.
Rashad also is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and two felony counts of cruelty to children.
Additionally, Rashad is wanted on undisclosed charges out of Clayton County, the Rome News-Tribune reported.
He is in the Floyd County jail without bond.
