A North Georgia man has been accused of killing his 23-month-old son after the boy was found dead in January, authorities said.
Teodoro “Miguel” Rosas-Santos, 37, was arrested Wednesday and charged with murder, GBI spokesman Greg Ramey said. Rosas-Santos is in the Murray County jail.
On Jan. 13, Isaiah Rosas of Chatsworth was found dead by his mother after she returned home from work and taking other children in the home to school, Ramey said.
The child died from asphyxia caused by the father, Ramey said.
Ramey said Rosas-Santos, who is in the United States illegally as a Mexican immigrant, was a target of the investigation early, the Daily Citizen of Dalton reported.
“Sometimes in an investigation, we are quickly able to determine things aren’t right, but it doesn’t necessarily mean an arrest is quickly coming,” Ramey said. “We could have made an arrest within a month of the death, but we just needed to get with all of the partners in the investigation and make sure all of the pieces fit together.”
The Murray County Sheriff’s Office requested the GBI’s help with the investigation.
