Georgia fire chief resigns after being arrested in trespassing incident

A South Georgia fire chief has resigned weeks after he was arrested and accused of pointing a gun during a trespassing incident, authorities said.

A City of Douglas spokeswoman confirmed that Chief Larry Wilson formally submitted his resignation. No other details were provided.

Wilson was arrested Jan. 6 in connection with an incident that took place on New Year’s Eve, AJC.com previously reported.

Officers obtained arrest warrants for Wilson after speaking with numerous victims and witnesses, police said in a Facebook post soon after the arrest. He faces one count of criminal trespass and two counts of pointing a pistol at another.

No other information about the incident was provided.

Douglas is the county seat of Coffee County, located about 85 miles west of Albany and 210 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
