The GBI was called in to investigate an officer-involved shooting in southeast Georgia on Tuesday.

A Florida woman was shot and killed after allegedly hitting a Georgia State trooper with her car during a traffic stop in McIntosh County on Tuesday morning, the GBI said.

The trooper tried to pull over Sasha Ann Pishko, 22, of Clermont, around 9:20 a.m. on I-95 South near Exit 61, the GBI said in a news release. She allegedly tried to drive off during the stop, hitting the trooper with her vehicle.

The trooper fired multiple shots into her car, and she wrecked shortly afterward, the release said. Pishko was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be performed Wednesday. The trooper suffered minor injuries during the incident.

McIntosh County is in southeast Georgia, and its county seat, Darien, is about 60 miles southwest of Savannah and about 290 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.

The GBI was called in to investigate the officer-involved shooting, which is the 13th such investigation the agency has opened in 2019.

It was the first of three such investigations the agency opened Tuesday, with others taking place in Fulton and Walton counties. The total number of officer-involved shooting investigations jumped to 15.

The last time the GBI responded to three officer-involved shootings within 24 hours was October 18.
