Jakyke Jarel Anderson, 20, was arrested in Cobb County and charged with murder in a Jan. 2 shooting death in Ocilla, according to the GBI.

A man accused in a South Georgia homicide was arrested this week at a Cobb County home, the GBI said Friday.

Jakyke Jarel Anderson, 20, was arrested Monday at a Smyrna residence and charged with felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault, according to police. Investigators believe Anderson fired the shot that killed Vincent Sharod Wells on Jan. 2 at his home in Ocilla.

Investigators previously said Wells was struck by a bullet fired by a man standing in the yard outside his home. The GBI said the suspect, later identified as Anderson, fired multiple shots through a side bedroom window.

When Ocilla police arrived at the home around 3:20 a.m., Wells was found dead. He was 31.

Ocilla police requested the GBI’s assistance with the case. Anderson was booked into the Cobb jail, where he was held overnight before being transferred to the Irwin County jail.

Investigators have not released a possible motive.

Ocilla, located about 100 miles south of Macon, is a town of about 3,600. Ocilla made national headlines in 2005 when a resident, local teacher and former beauty queen Tara Grinstead, disappeared. Two people have been charged in connection with her death.
