Police are trying to figure out what led to a double shooting after investigators found a man and woman with multiple gunshot wounds to their heads and bodies, officials said.

An officer was in the area of Peyton Place in southwest Atlanta about 12:30 a.m. Sunday, according to Atlanta spokeswoman Officer TaSheena Brown.

The officer was responding to a noise complaint when he heard multiple gunshots ring out across the street, Brown said.

The officer ran toward the gunshots and found the man and woman unresponsive and bleeding. They were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Their conditions are not known, but Brown said both victims were breathing when they were transported.

An investigation is ongoing.
