A Forsyth County woman faces several charges, including criminal attempt to commit murder, after allegedly stabbing an 86-year-old woman about 15 times in New Jersey, authorities said.

Tanya Spears, 60, of Cumming, was arrested Monday at about 4 a.m. at a home in Cedar Grove, police said in a news release. Cedar Grove is less than 15 miles northwest of Newark.

When officers arrived, they found the victim “bleeding profusely” while lying in bed, the release said. The woman’s husband called police.

Spears, who was allegedly a house guest, was found in a different bedroom and arrested, the release said. The victim, who was in critical condition, was taken to a hospital, where she remains.

Police booked Spears into the Essex County Jail on charges of criminal attempt to commit murder, aggravated assault, unlawful use of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, the release said.

Investigators haven’t been able to determine a motive for the attack. The incident remains under investigation.
