A former sheriff of Wheeler County has been arrested on drug and other charges, the Macon Telegraph reported.

Maurice Lynn Johnson, who was the county’s sheriff from 2012-16, is charged in Twiggs County with methamphetamine possession, having and using drug-related objects, a window-tint violation, following too closely and a tag-light violation, according to jail records.

It is Johnson’s second arrest since leaving office, according to multiple media reports.

In January, he was arrested in connection with the theft of 12 bales of pine straw from private property while he still was sheriff, according to wgxa.tv, a Macon television station website.

Johnson was charged in Wheeler County with misdemeanor theft by taking, the website reported. It is not known how the case was resolved.

Wheeler County is about 170 miles southeast of downtown Atlanta.
