An Atlanta man was sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted of ambushing a man and fatally shooting him with an AK-47, according to the Fulton County district attorney.

Orlando Jordan, 31, was sentenced for murder and felony murder Wednesday, nearly six years after Antoniyo Wiggins was found collapsed in the road near his southwest Atlanta home.

Wiggins, 35, was involved in a heated altercation with his roommate the morning of March 22, 2014, Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard said.

The details of the altercation are not clear, but Atlanta police were sent to the shared apartment on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive to break up the dispute, Howard said. The roommate left the apartment and went to Jordan’s unit in the same complex, according to Howard. The two talked and Jordan said Wiggins had stolen from him before.

Shortly after, Jordan left his apartment and hid in some bushes “in preparation for an ambush of Wiggins,” Howard said.

“The defendant knew, at some point, the victim would walk through the area where he was hiding,” Howard said.

Jordan soon saw Wiggins walking along the road. Wiggins had some of his belongings with him and his dog was by his side, Howard said. As the man passed, Jordan, armed with an AK-47, opened fire, he said.

Jordan fired 24 shots, according to Howard. Wiggins was hit 15 times in the head, torso, arms, back and legs. He died at the scene, and Jordan ran away.

Jordan had been in federal prison until 2019 for a bank robbery he had committed years prior, Howard said. He wasn’t charged in Wiggins’ death until June of last year, at which point he was arrested in Fulton County.
