A man is facing federal charges after the FBI and local officials said he led a gang in Cobb County.

Tony L. Menefee, who went by the alias “Brim Major,” is also being charged locally in connection with the gang activity, according to Marietta police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy.

Officials said Menefee admitted to being the leader of the street gang “Dem Marietta Boys” or the “Brim Bloods.” He was arrested about 6 a.m. Monday at the Sedgefield Apartments in Marietta, McPhilamy said.

Menefee was taken into a federal detention facility in Atlanta. He faces federal charges of possession of a stolen firearm and possession of a firearm by a drug user. Locally, he's charged with violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act with intent to distribute MDMA, possession of a stolen firearm, violation of the Criminal Street Gang Act and possession of marijuana.

The arrest comes after a four-year investigation by federal and local law enforcement. Menefee was the 10th person to be charged in connection with the probe, McPhilamy said.

One of the people taken into custody during the investigation broke an FBI agent’s arm and leg while trying to avoid arrest in Sandy Springs, AJC.com previously reported.

Cedrick Hill was charged with assaulting an officer after investigators said he pinned the agent’s arm in the door of a truck and dragged him for a quarter of a mile in January 2018. The agent used his free hand to shoot at Hill.
