The teen was wounded in a Jonesboro neighborhood early May 30 after leading police on a chase from Fayetteville, authorities said at the time.

According to the GBI, the pursuit began shortly after 7:30 a.m. when Fayetteville police spotted the child driving recklessly and attempted to pull him over.
He fled from officers, prompting them to call in the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office for assistance. A short time later, deputies spotted the car driving through several yards on a dead-end street in a Clayton County neighborhood, the GBI said.
The teen, who was not identified, reportedly accelerated toward the deputies as they approached his vehicle, prompting them to open fire, GBI spokeswoman Natalie Ammons said at the time. It’s unclear how many times the teen was shot, but he survived his injuries.
As is typical in most officer-involved shootings, the GBI was asked to investigate the incident.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office also conducted its own investigation into the matter, leading to the termination of the two deputies involved, Lt. Allen Stevens confirmed. The agency has not released the deputies’ names or explained why they were fired.
